Earlier today, Jordan Brand hosted a school pep rally at Miami’s Norland Senior High School, where emcee Howard White, the brand’s Vice President, helped to excite and engage the crowd of a few thousands students with lessons on life and the accompaniment of the Viking’s marching band. As part of the brand’s Jordan Fundamentals program, the school was treated to a “Layups for Learning” contest, in which five members of the men’s and women’s hoops squad were tasked with making a simple layup that would earn the school $2,000 per make. After the first four makes, the school’s D1-headed big man on campus Marvin Baynham brought the house down with a thunderous two-handed slam, bringing the Jordan Fundamentals donation total to $10,000.
To the surprise of everyone in attendance, Heat superstar and newly added Jordan Brand athlete Dwyane Wade was also on hand, putting the place into an immediate frenzy as he tried to share brief stories about his childhood and the importance of education amongst the buzzing crowd. Wade, publicly wearing the Air Jordan 2010 for the first time, was excited to represent the brand for the first of many times in the Miami community. “It was great to be able to join the Jordan Brand in giving back to Miami Norland Senior High School,” said Wade. “I feel so blessed to be where I am, so it’s important to me that I try to encourage as many youth as I can about the importance of believing in themselves and giving back to their communities. It’s amazing to think what the next generation can accomplish.”

Jamari Daniel, a Track & Field team member, and Teko Powell, of the Norland Football team, two student-athletes and huge Wade fans committed to the goals of the Jordan Fundamentals program. “It was cool for Dwyane Wade to be at our school because this is my Senior year, and nothing big ever happens at our school,” says Jamari. “I plan to graduate and attend college, majoring in Productions or Engineering!” He runs the 800 meters event and is headed to the upcoming State tournament.
