Eastbay Presents: Christmas Sneaker Watch

words_Nick DePaula

In what could only be described as a night of perhaps too much basketball, Christmas Day brought us an unprecedented five NBA games, featuring the marquee match-ups the nation was after, along with some definite sleepers. Though several games failed to live up to the holiday billing and were less than thrilling, as always, some great new sneakers of the new year were debuted on the feet of the league’s biggest stars. And now, one of our biggest Sneaker Watches ever…here we gooooo!!

SuperCoolBeas half-asses it by simply dropping some green laces into his adidas TS Commander PEs. C’mon Mike!

Doing it wrong, is Chris Duhon. He’s wearing his normal home Zoom Kobe IV iD’s, and missed the memo on the green and red theme.

Danilo Gallinari.

Stun. Ting.

And now, the grand stage performer of the night — the Air Jordan 1 Alpha!! These look ridiculously sweet, and with a bonded layer upper, the same environmentally preferred mesh from the XX3 along the collar and a full-length bottom-loaded Zoom Air bag, they’re also juuuuust a bit more comfortable than the original I’s that Mike broke out for his last Garden game as a Bull.

Jared Jeffries…you lucky bastard!

Another in-game shot. Would you like to see these hit Jordan iD?

In the second game of the day, “Brothers” Dwight Howard and Kevin Garnett squared off while each wearing a custom pair of the adidas TS Supernatural Commander. While Dwight was slated to wear his “Christmas” themed pair, he simply stuck with his normal home colorway instead.

Take a closer look, as KG’s pair features not only his #5 along the collar, but also the production version height, while Dwight’s pair has an inch or so added to the collar, just for his liking.

Ray Allen was shooting the ball pretty well, and also showing off the new Air Jordan 1 Alpha, in a themed Black/Green/Red colorway. GUCCI!!!!

After starting off the first half in a more subtle White/ Red version of the Nike Cradle Rock Low, Rajon Rondo got a bit more festive in the second half with a red based pair.

Here’s another look at Rondo taking it right to the basket, with Rashard Lewis late to rotate in the Nike Hyperize.

As always, Brian Scalabrine is caught doing what he does best — staying out of the play.

By request, here’s a pic of Eddie House, wearing the Red/Green Reebok Answer XIII. Sorry….sizing was as big as we could find!!

Though the Heat/ Knicks and Magic/ Celtics were enjoyable games for some, surely everyone was waiting to ‘WITNESS’ the Kobe and LeBron epic match-up!! The game failed to deliver, but we did get quite a few looks at the ‘Christmas’ Air Max LeBron VII.

As you can see, Bron decided to add some flair with a pair of green laces.

And to take things over the top for the holidays, Jordan Farmar sported a snow flaked-out pair of the new adidas TS Supernatural Creator. A sweet shoe, just maybe not in this version.

Jamario Moon came off the bench to provide some scoring help for the Cavs, and he also caught this nice lob while wearing a special Christmas edition Hyperize.

With the anticipation mounting for LeBron’s Christmas VIIs, the debut of Kobe Bryant’s newest signature shoe, the Zoom Kobe V, was also on deck. Here we have some great angles of the ‘Chaos’ colorway.

Derek Fisher, Lamar Odom, Josh Powell and Kobe all wore the V’s on Christmas.

And because they’re absolutely loaded, living in LA, and had multi-thousand dollar seats for the Christmas game, NIKE iD hooked up fans in the first row of the arena with pairs of the Zoom Kobe V iD in varying Laker themed colorways.  Lucky!! (Though dude on the left apparently didn’t want to switch out of his Louis Sk8 Highs.)

You can’t hate on George though!! He’s just loving every minute of it.

This pretty much sums it up for Kobe and the Lakers, who basically approached the game thinking that arriving to the arena was all it’d take for a win.

I’m assuming you didn’t catch much of the Suns and Clippers game, and hopefully you were unwrapping presents or eating a nice Christmas dinner with the family, like me, so we’ll zip through this game as quickly as possible. Marcus Camby, wearing a Zoom Blur iD, and Amar’e Stoudemire, in a Christmas version of the Nike Hyperize, get things started.

Jared Dudley was also wearing the Hyperize, while Al Thornton’s pair looks to be better suited for the TWolves’ unis. As always, my main man Ricky Davis keeps things unpredictable, as he’s seemingly wearing a pair of Brandon Roy’s Max Rise PEs. Ricky normally wears a size 15, and Brandon is a 15.5, and anything is possible with Tricky Ricky!!

Eric Gordon also got in on the snow flake fun by wearing a themed pair of the adidas TS Supernatural Creator.

In the last game of the night, the Nuggets and Blazers faced off. Kenyon Martin enjoyed getting away from Denver’s baby blue and wore the “Rising Sun” Retro 12s.

He did, however, end up switching into the Hallowed Ground for the second half, as he defends the TS Lightning Creator-wearing Jarryd Bayless on this play.

Martell Webster kept the Nike Zoom Kobe iD streak going, this time around splashing a little more red than normal onto his shoes.

Carmelo Anthony even joined in on the red theme, though he didn’t go all in like year’s past, as he wore a White/ Columbia version of the Melo M6 that featured red accents and laces.

They ended up being a bit different than the pair previewed on Jumpman23.com.

JR Smith took liberty with the holiday theme and broke out a pair of the White/ Red Retro 12.

The Blazers’ hampered star poured in a game-high 41 points, as Brandon Roy rocked a Red/ Gold version of the Max Rise PE while carrying the depleted team to a nice home win.

And lastly, from Chris Quinn to you, here’s to hoping everyone out there had a safe and Merry Christmas!!

Any pics of the Answer XIII Eddie House was wearing?

  2. Nick says:

^ Just updated the post with a pic, but it’s a rather small look at his Green/ Red Answer XIIIs.

The Alpha Jordan I’s look great, and Beasley really should’ve tried harder.
The KG’s are actually really low(only one lace-loop on the collar), the Dwight’s are much more like the GR’s with 2 lace-loops on the collar. The Dwight Colorway is great(hope it releases), and the KG’s look great.
Farmar should’ve definitely gone with the Black Snowflake’s, and some higher socks, they’re way better, and he seems to have a really skinny foot, because you’d expect him to fill out the shoe a little better.
The X-mas Hyperize’s all looked really nice, I’m a sucker for the colorful approach.
All the Kobe V iD’s looked great, not a big fan of the Chaos cw, but the shoe design is hot.
I like LeBrons added Green laces, but I really think they shouldn’t have flipped the patent.
The Melos are nice, kind of an old Kings cw.

  4. Jason says:

Strange how Nike is switching back to the old school looks for a lot of their sneakers, maybe the design team is running out of ideas. The Kobe 5s Chaos colorway looks like ninja turtle colorway lol.. nice of kobe to hook up the entire team though.. too bad cavs pwned them last night

  5. HeelBruise says:

Brandon Roy needs to switch to Jordan Brand.

  6. LAh1 says:

Eddie curry had the AJ6 Carmine with green laces on da bench!

  7. Nick says:

^ Well if Eddy Curry ever got in the damn game we’d have a picture!!

  8. Johnny says:

wow rasheedd wallace is a dumbass. he’s muslim yet he’s wearing xmas shoes and a red headband

  9. Y&G says:

    the beatiful kicks everywhere! DAMN!

  10. @Johnny Wallace is the dumbass? You’re the one who can’t spell “Rasheed”. LMAO.

  11. Aran says:

That ‘LA’ puppet hand sign tee is nice. On a side note, I saw a photo of the Lakers-Cavs game and someone in the crowd was raising that ‘LA’ sign upside down, thought it was a promotion for Kobe’s and Bron’s new kicks because it looked like ‘V7′

  12. nomde says:

hey nick…you got a shot of george lopez and some fans having fun with their kobe’s how come you have nothing on for eddy curry or any one on the bench?

  13. jrbballin30@yahoo.com says:

Alphas on Wade look amazing. Not really feeling Jeffries green ones, although they don’t look bad, just kind of bleh. I could see a lot of NBA players picking up the Alpha 1s in their team colors for hooping. Can’t wait to get the white red ones!

  14. Andy David says:

Dang. D Wade’s Alphas are gonna fly through the shelves I bet. Sheed’s AF1’s are cool too. And it’s still startling to see just how big Shaq is when next to anyone.

  15. Koozies says:

    They are so brave !
    Seems heros

  16. dauniqueone says:

Yo! Seen the Kobe’s about 4 months ago and was like are you kidding me? A talented kid I play ball with was rocking them as a tester. I was like ok a tester they are going to switch it up, cause this looks like a clown shoe. Nope it’s the same damn shoe hyper colorway and all! The athelete that was testing them said “it was a cross trainer and it stunk for playing ball in”, he’s no Kobe I guess. I saw Dwane in those 1’s and I said I hope those are the new ones cause if it aint, he’s gonna be hurtin in the morning. I had some 1’s, white with the clear sole that were turning yellow from just sitting so I rocked them to ball in. Ouch! Hevens to megertriod! Exit to stage left even! Damn!!! Never did that again!

  17. Mike says:

anyone know release date for zoom rock cradle lows?
