Chris Paul Unveils the Jordan CP3.III

words_Nick EngvallChris Paul in the Jordan CP3.III Mardi Gras

While most of the sneaker world has been rightfully distracted by the unveiling of the Kobe V, another NBA superstar has recently been seen wearing his latest signature shoe.

Chris Paul led the New Orleans Hornets to victory over the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night, and for the first time this season Paul wore the third edition of his signature Jordan CP3 line. While wearing the upcoming Mardi Gras colorway, Paul scored 15, dished 12 assists, had 5 boards and 3 steals. Numbers like that consistently remind us why he has his own signature line.

The CP3.III follows up the success of last year’s CP3.II model. Styling cues from the previous version can be seen subtly mixed in to various places on the third version. Most noticeably on the ankle area which shares the exaggerated  stitching and similar material makeup. Also noticeably similar are the smooth and seamless toebox, as well as the placement of the outriggers that help to keep Chris slashing and cutting at lightning speeds. Although those CP3.II influences are more prominent, the overall shape of the silhouette ties back to the very first shoe of the CP3 line.

As for the colorway, it may not look as if it matches with the Hornets jerseys but it’s the team’s home city of New Orleans that this colorway pays tribute to. The purple and gold colors are traditionally associated with Mardi Gras, which has been a New Orleans tradition for over a century. While last year’s Mardi Gras version was done up in a black colorway, this year the white chosen for a base color is more appropriately matched with the team’s home colored jerseys. Aside from the traditional colors, the midsole of the Mardi Gras edition CP3.III is covered with mutli-colored speckles representing the glitter and confetti that cover the streets during the event.

The Jordan CP3.III Mardi Gras edition will be available at select Jordan Brand retailers such as Foot Locker on December 24th. For an in-depth look at the new CP3.III with insights from designer Jason Mayden and the development and marketing team, be sure to check out Sole Collector’s upcoming Issue 31, releasing at the end of this month.

attention to detail is superb. i just wonder does this shoe ride low? doesnt look like it’s on the “low profile” side… just my thoughts based on how it looks. but you gotta wear them to judge them better. i may be wrong you know

  2. 4DRUMZ says:

Growing on me but I still can’t get fully past the AJ XXII resemblance!?!?

  3. Colin says:

Ya the detail is the best part..

  4. Dipsetbichcj says:

I said the same thing that it look like the XXII but hopefully they look fresh in person

  5. ST says:

The are actually REALLY REALLY LIGHT, like the hyperdunks. The shoe rides low because of the POds implemented in the SHOE. Lot of padding around the shoe.

  6. JMJ says:

if it had different colors, It might look better

I would’ve liked them to have kept some of that aggressive CP3.II styling.
