Nike 6.0 teamed up with what can only be described as a unique choice for their next upcoming collaboration. Buzz Aldrin, yes the man who was the second person to set foot on the moon. Although a partnership with the cartoon character in Toy Story might seem like a more likely pairing, as we’ve seen countless cartoon inspired sneakers, Aldrin and Nike share some very important passions. Both Nike and Aldrin share a passion for human ingenuity and innovation. It was those two passions that led to the creation of the Rocket Man Mavrk Mid 2.
With Nike Considered Design becoming more and more a priority, the new Mavrk Mid 2 was made in a very conscious path in its design. To reduce waste, the Mavrk Mid 2 was created in a cold wrap process, which serves another purpose in making the sneaker much lighter than most of the current action sports sneakers. This process also greatly reduces the use of solvents that are hazardous to people and our environment. A unique integrated outsole, similar to Nike Free technology, offers more flexibility than is typically found in action sports shoes.
As for the appearance side of the Mavrk Mid 2, the lack of stitching around the toebox helps to accentuate the graphics which are actually photos taken from Buzz Aldrin himself. The collage of photos also extends around side panels and collar contrasting the matte black makeup of the Mavrk Mid 2 which was inspired by the vastness of space. Another notable on the Rocket Hero colorway is the Swoosh, which on the outer panels is matte black, but on the inner side panel features a silver that matches nicely. On the flip side of the icy clear outsole, the insole features the footprints of Aldrin which were left on the moon during his Apollo 11 mission. The finishing touches were added in the form of Buzz Aldrin’s signature on the heel, and the well deserved title of “Rocket Hero” on the tongue, which describes Aldrin perfectly.
The Nike 6.0 x Buzz Aldrin Rocket Hero Mavrk Mid 2 will be available at Nike 6.0 retailers and online on January 1st, 2010.
