just when I thought I was sick of denim.
I'd love to see you do a non Vans shoe now though.....dont have to be Nikes either, just NOT Sk8 hi's. Supras or Converse, or Gourmet....somethin
not that thats out the way...really well done...I mean at this point theres nothing to say. You got this style of shoe down
if you decide to stick with sk8 hi's I hope you do something to alter the look of it. I mean I know there are a number of people that s trive for a "factory" look, and thats well and good, but to me, if you have the capabilities to do more....I say, do more! Make a change here and there instead of just rebuilding it with premium materials. Add a strap...change a panel...make the shoe YOURS.
end ramble/ lol

Basically ive come to the conclusion that continuing to simply choose say 3-5 materials and stitching up a pair of sneakers is no longer satisfying and does nothing outside of the box. At this level of customizing all of us can do that with our eyes closed. Therefore if I was to do another pair that has not already been completed I would rather just quit customizing.
Let me quickly add I am not taking anything away from these or any customizer who uses however few or however many materials in their work. I myself still consider each and every recon that is factory for material replacement a "regular recon", i simply want to try and utilize my recon skills and innovate in areas that I can. as you mentioned eL if you have the capabilities to do more... do more!
thats just the way I view it. Dont get me wrong, I completely respect the ability to recon a shoe and have it look factory, but I need dudes to do more than just replace leather with suede...I wanna be wowed! Granted there are a few material or color way combos that still grab me, but most of the recon guys are at a place where that can step outside that box and really do something special. I mean, each guy has to do him, but I personally feel the surface has barely been scratched in terms of what can be done.

[b:9a3883246a]"continuing to glue denim is simply blasphemous"[/b:9a3883246a]
With a personal love for vintage acid wash denim and added encouragement from fellow sneaker customizer EF, I decided to make the "ultimate sacrifice" and chop up a couple pairs of otherwise hard to find acid wash Levi's® 501s which were my own size I might add and use them on a couple new sneaker projects. Taking scissors to the jeans were a challenge in of itself but once the denim was laid out and made into panels I knew the end product would be worth it. The pictures should let you decide for yourself. This is the first pair of the series and is a special 1of1* release aswell.

eL my friend you have brought up a very good and valid point and it has literally taken me the past couple months off & really my whole customizing career to "put my foot down" and get to this point. JBF just made a comment on my FB no big deal no beef cuz we are cool but what he said stood out. Basically implying that using 1 material is somehow worse then using multiple materials. It has taken me a while to have my mind mold in the way it has in regards to customizing and imo number of materials used or the type of material used simply should not matter.
A customizer should not recieve more credit or acclaim for using 5-8 materials then one who uses just 1 or 2 for example. Same can be said for paint artist, we don't hold a paint pair in higher light if they use 1000001 colors and criticize those who use a select few needed for the job. You all get the point. No matter how many materials I use it essentially takes the same amount of time to do and the same skills aswell. Onto the more important issue at hand.
From this point on I will actually not just recon but innovate my work in the ways I have wanted to for the longest. I have simply bullshitted for far to long. Simply put expect 1 more similar release in the coming weeks as this was a 2 pair initial series release and then from there on out I wont post unless it is actually something "new" for my work. By that I mean aesthetic wise and innovative as mentioned. EL if you have read this far trust me I also plan to expand into the various other Vans models as there are a ton that I love. I will say i will probably stick with Vans as my brand of choice although I will say I am interested in trying some of the other newer and smaller brands out now.

These are really dope bro, keep up the good work! The denim looks great, its about flawless!
Well lemme just Clarify... I never meant that I thought the use of 1 material is somehow "not as good' as the use of a bunch. I meant that, to me, using a material that has been done to death and than done more, is boring and imo unappealing. Not knocking the work, not knocking the artist.
As for the shoes, they're done well. I look forward to seeing this "non-regular" work.
Just incase any1 might read and have missed it because I mentioned JBF in my rant, I said I am cool with him and there wasn't a problem with what I understood he said. Just used it more as an example for my opinion on recons in general, how they are received and work going forward.
No beef!
adam
i'll never get tired of denim......especially these...the white thread is kinda outta place...i guess i shoulda said offwhite i figured the acid would be brighter. I really think it would look even better with a bit of another material to break it up...so i'm excited to find some acid wash one of these days and have you create my idea.
overall still real illy
^legit Jake. I look forward to posting up. Should have something out def. before the year is out. Out of class 1st week of December.
eF yep the wash gave em a dirtier white color. Stitching matches the sole but off-white thread could have been used in hindsight. I def am not done playing around with the acid wash, series 1 was the intro and more standard pair. Will try mixing in some other materials in the future for sure. eF whenever your ready to cop we can work out the details just lmk!
