If you're trying to look for one on deviantart.com, its under Customization > Skin&Themes > Windows Vista Utilities > Visual Styles
Be sure you have the program winZIP for this!
Otherwise you won't be able to accomplish anything whatsoever.
Steps I took:
1. Find a Visual Style, download it [should be a .zip file]
2. Use winZIP to extract it to your desktop

1) The Visual Styles:
To install one of the Visual Styles, you must have a patched uxtheme file. VistaGlazz is a great application
that patches automatically your uxtheme file. http://www.codegazer.com/vistaglazz/
Once your files are patched, go to /Windows/Resources/Themes/ and drag/drop the folder of the Visual Style you'd like to use.
Then right click on the desktop > Personalize > Theme > Advanced and choose the style you want then hit apply.
If you have Vista 32bit you can also use an application that allows you to change styles easily without having to patch any file.

2) The browseuis
First, the browseuis are the system files that changes the look of the back/forward buttons in the explorer window and some other stuff.
These are a bit harder to repleace, and if you don't know what you're doing, don't do it.
To repleace it: go to /Windows/system32/ and take ownership of the browseui.dll file. rename it then to something like
browseui1.dll or whatever you like. Once you renamed it, drag/drop one of the browseui.dll included in this pack.
The file called browseui.dll.black is the file you'll want to you use if you're using either Terminal or Terminal RWND.
If you want to use Terminal FFWD, use browseui.dll.white. Let's say you want to use Terminal FFWD.
Drag/drop browseui.dll.white in your system32 folder and rename it to browseui.dll (so basically delete the .white part).
Reboot your computer and you'll see the changes.
3) The font
A font is uncluded in the pack, you might want to install it. It fits the theme better if you have it, so just right click on
-insert font here- and click Install. That is all. |
I wouldn't worry about step 2 that much, steps 1 and 3 are pretty much all you have to do.
This is a basic guideline for people who want to change their vista theme and don't know how.
