Ok, there are so much damn threads about this nowadays, so I thought I'd make the official thread.
Here, you can ask for workout tips, how to lose weight, good dieting methods, and etc.
So, heres my question...
As some of you know, I'm just pretty "cut" and lean. I'd like to get bigger though, put on a lot more muscle mass instead of just being "cut".
Anyways...
Ok, I just picked up some "Real Gains" Weight Enhancement Forumla. Basically 52G of protein a serving and all that other good stuff; vitamins, iron, and etc.
I plan to only take it after I workout, which means I'll be having 4-5 servings a week since I goto the gym 4-5 times a week.
What else should I be doing with this stuff? Take it even on the days I don't work out? Should I take 2 servings a day? Since most people say you need to take so and so grams of protein a day compared to how much you weigh.
School me! _________________ M-L: SUPREME S/S 2008 SS LINE + OLDER SUPREME |

I think the weight gain type stuff is best post-workout. I wouldn't really mess w/ it otherwise.
I got bigger rather quickly by:
eating LOTS of protein...(I read in a fitness magazine you need a gram of protein for every pound you weigh)
working with bigger weights/ less reps (but not a huge decrease in reps; like I'll do 5 sets of 5,4,3,2,1. with each set having more weight as before) _________________ R.I.P Sydni_Yoshie"the good die young"

My advice is to not waste your money on any of that protein shake B.S.
Extra protein just goes in your stomach and out the other end. Extra protein does not help add mass at all.
However make sure you eat accoringly to your body mass, have 3 regular meals.
Also just eating a bowl of cereal with a glass of milk and some fruit will supply you with all the nutrients and vitamins you need to do workouts to either gain mass or get lean. Plus your body won't be relying on all them chemicals and byproducts.
Those protein shakes are also known to cause kidney problems.
By doing the above you will save a lot of money rather than buying all them 40 dollar hoax's. _________________

How to jump higher:
1)never buy anklewieghts
2)Its obvous that a lot of great dunkers had no leg mass - its not in the muscle mass.
discipline yourself to do as many toe-raises as you can. What I do is tell my self every time I walk up the first step to my room I have to stop and hit 50 toe-raises, and that could be a lot or a little. Thats essentially all you need to do.
Good alternates:
1 - stairclimber machine
2 - practice jumping slowly but as strong as you can with a heavy medicine ball lifting the ball the same way you would a basketball.
3 - jump rope
It takes A Loooooong time to get better at jumping and a lot of people I know give up quick.
So you dont need to waste your money or time in a gym or buy any expensive milkshakes to gain muscle mass. _________________

I would pull my health book out right now if I didnt sell it.
All over the bottles it says "#1 muscle gainer!" "gain 5x your mass in 2 weeks!!!" "guaranteed!!!"
The average body can only digest like around 30 grams of protein a day and after that it just gets flushed out your system.
and 30 grams is like a couple pieces of chicken, which you would eat anyway. _________________

#1. Anything about gaining 8 pounds of mass/muscle in a week is balogne. You'd be lucky..with the best genetics and toughest routine to gain 5 pounds of actual muscle tissue in a year of heavyweight lifting/powerlifting. Not to discourage anyone, but your simply not gaining 5 lbs. of muscle in a week...Idc who you are.
I've never heard most of what archtect has written, but I wouldn't doubt it..to be honest with you. There is a lot of misleading and bs piled into the everyday magazines you can pick up at your local grocery store. Magazines are a business, mostly run by desk slobs who don't even work out, so who are they to say what works and doesn't work. The idea is, they're getting paid to advertise everything they put on their paper( i.e., cell mass, NO2, you name it ) and everyone runs out to get it.
FAMOUS, I can only imagine what your metabolism is like bro...cause I know mine is killing me. Basically, in order to gain mass/size/become bigger you need to put on weight. Which probably sounds pretty crappy, but you've probably heard the idea that it is easier to get all jacked up if your fat rather than being skinny. If you've already got the size to work with you can blow up a lot easier, now if your a bean pole and you work out you'll get more cut and defined. UNLESS, you go less reps more weight as stated by other members. Which is pretty much common sense, but most people like the idea of doing 5 sets of 10-15, etc. It's lighter and probably more ''fun.''
So bulk up on the weights, eat as much as you can(clean food, high in carbs ) and make sure you are obtaining enough protein. Also, taking a multivitamin, never hurt.
Carb foods:
Rice cakes
Cantaloupe
Oatmeal
Apples
PASTA
potatoes/yams
brown rice ( brown being the best, but any rice in general )
bagels
hash browns
english muffins
bananas
pita bread
wheat bread
lots of fish = high in protein and iron
chicken
turkey breast
hamburgers, extra lean
roast beef
round steak
I mean, you name it..You don't have to sacrifice taste to benefit health wise. Just look into what your eating and care about what's going in and out..
But you have to eat...almost non stop. Eating after you work out, is key. Otherwise Catabolism ( I believe that's what it's called) takes place, in which case your breaking down muscle tissue and the energy you have stored is released (aka the complete opposite of what your striving for.)
Let me know, if that answers your questions at all FAMOUS. I could talk fitness all day, It's something I truely believe in and strive to learn more about everyday. Anyone who wants to school me, please do. |

What about the new stuff that I just picked up? When should I take it? I'm thinking I should take it in the morning when I wake up, then at night right after I workout.
And on the days I don't workout, don't take it all that day. _________________ M-L: SUPREME S/S 2008 SS LINE + OLDER SUPREME |

Well, it should say on the bottle. I would suggest taking it before and after you workout....and probably not taking any on your off days...but hit the carbs/calories/and protein hard still.
Also, if your not catching the right amount of sleep...your doing this all for nothing. Get as much sleep as possible, no all nighters, etc. etc. You don't build during exercise you build while you sleep. You rip and tear while you work out. Just thought I'd point that out, as it hadn't been stated previously. |

I got a question:
How do you get more toned?
I got the muscle mass, but its not really toned. I drink lots of water and sometimes just do reps of kinda low weight. I also run. I even sleep a whole lot. My diet is pretty solid as well.
also, is it a bad thing to get HUGE stretch marks?
because I got some stretch marks near the chest region that look like I got mauled by a tiger; but then again Im not sure its even a stretch mark. It could be a big scar that I don't remember how I got it _________________ R.I.P Sydni_Yoshie"the good die young"

Alex J, I would hit the treadmill/street everyday for about 45 minutes. Not even all out sprinting, just whatevers comfortable. If your in the gym and on a tread, i'd say stay at about 4-5 speed wise, and ocassionally bump it up a few then back down ( switching your pace increases the body fat burned ). You don't have to neccessarily diet either, but try to give up the fastfood and junk ( candy, soda, etc. ) if it's a big part of your diet/you dabble with it everyday.
And of couse, working out your legs wouldn't hurt. Squats, Calf raises, Lunges(with or without weights in your hand), leg presses, lying down leg extensions, you name it. But honestly, if your running enough you'll lose the look/weight you have there now. But to get toned and looking good, thats where the workouts come in handy. |
