Madden NFL 10 has seen a graphics and presentation overhaul. Many authentic details were added like dynamic player towels, single-digit helmet numbers, Super Bowl patches, team colored gloves and shoes, season based field designs, better number spacing on jerseys, new player equipment and uniforms, weather based clothing, hundreds of new cameras, new broadcast graphics, and a hundred new cut scenes. Also, each player was tuned to accurately represent his body, hair, and equipment.
Many stadiums had renovations to their edge walls, fields, and structure to be as accurate as possible. Lighting was totally reworked to make the game more vibrant and true to broadcast quality colors. Sky bloom and light bleed were also added to help put that final polish on the lighting. Character rim lights were redone as well to look more natural. We also included new camera effects like Depth of Field, water on the lens and lens distortion.
Overall the results in Madden NFL 10 are the most authentic representation of football yet to grace your console.

TEAM BREAKDOWN
AFC East
Buffalo Bills Overall Team Rating 76
The Bills made a huge splash this offseason acquiring one of the most talented and controversial wide receivers in the league - Terrell Owens (91 OVR). Adding Owens to an already strong WR corp with Lee Evans (85 OVR/97 SPD) and Josh Reed, gives the Bills the #3 WR unit in football. Throwing to that top ranked unit will be QB Trent Edwards (73 OVR/87 SAC). Marshawn Lynch (87 OVR/93 TRK) and Fred Jackson (77 OVR) form a tough 1-2 punch in the running game. The O-Line is very poor, ranking as the worst (32 of 32) line in the NFL, so you will have lots of work to do in franchise mode to get this unit competitive. On defense, Buffalo is led by their Defensive Line unit. DT Marcus Stroud (92 OVR/96 STR)and DE Aaron Schobel (86 OVR) are two of the toughest run stoppers in the business. The LB unit ranks middle of the road at #23 and the CB unit is a little better at #21 - but both pretty average as far as NFL defensive unit are concerned. The special teams unit is a bright spot for the Bills as the tag team duo of punter Brian Moorman (89 OVR) and kicker Rian Lindell (79 OVR) rank as the 9th best Special teams unit in the football for Madden NFL 10.
New England Patriots OVTR 93
The New England Patriots are the cream of the crop when it comes to Madden NFL 10. They check in officially with a team rating of 93, making them the #1 ranked team in the game. Led by one of the best offenses in football, Tom Brady (97 OVR) and Randy Moss (96 OVR) look to break even more records in 2009. WR's Wes Welker (91 OVR) and Joey Galloway (91 SPD) also team up with Moss to form the #2 WR unit in the NFL. The Pats also have the #2 Offensive Line in football with guard Logan Mankins (93 OVR) and tackle Matt Light (90 OVR) being the leaders of this group. The one weak spot in this offense is at RB. And it's not because the Patriots don't have options with Fred Taylor, Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk and Laurence Maroney. They just don't have a lead #1 back. On defense, the DL unit ranks #1 in all of football with Richard Seymour (95 OVR), Ty Warren (87 OVR) and Vince Wilfork (91 OVR) all returning. Adalius Thomas (90 OVR) and second year linebacker Jerrod Mayo (88 OVR) form the #9 ranked LB unit.
Miami Dolphins OVTR 77
The Dolphins are THE premier team to run the infamous Wildcat offensive scheme this season in Madden NFL 10. Running backs Ronnie Brown (89 OVR) and Ricky Williams (77 OVR) are a big reason. Brown is sneaky too because we did give him some adequate passing skills for a RB (so you can run some of the passing plays out of the Wildcat). At QB, the pinpoint accurate Chad Pennington (85 OVR / 93 TAC) returns, albeit with lower arm strength (74 THP) than you've seen in past versions of Madden. Also at QB is electrifying rookie Pat White from West Virginia. He is a multiple threat and can be used at wide receiver as well. Left Tackle Jake Long (91 OVR) is a brick wall on the offensive line. On defense, the Dolphins welcome back Jason Taylor to the team. He is not as dominant as he was in year's past, but he should still provide a consistent pass rush. OLB Joey Porter returns after a 17.5 sack season in 2008. The weak spot is on the defensive line. The young DE's Kendall Langford and Phillip Merling really need to step up in 2009. Finally, don't sleep on WR/KR/PR Ted Ginn and his deep speed. He should be even better this year both at WR and on special teams.
New York Jets OVTR 78
M - A - R - K, Mark, Mark Mark! There is little doubt that rookie Mark Sanchez (78 OVR) will lead the Jets this year in what could be the most interesting division race in the NFL. Surrounding the first round pick is a pretty average receiving core led by Jerricho Cotchery (81 OVR / 87 AGL / 86 CAT) and TE Dustin Keller (86 SPD / 90 ACC). The Jets offense will be largely driven by the run game, one of the top in the league. Thomas Jones (90 OVR) leads the group with speedy backup Leon Washington (93 SPD / 95 AGL) and rookie Shone Greene. The Offensive Line is extremely strong with Center Nick Mangold (94 OVR) and LG Alan Faneca (97 OVR). The Jets vastly improved their Defense with the signing of LB Bart Scott (90 OVR / 85 Toughness) and was already led by CB Darrelle Revis (91 OVR). Opposing Running Backs with have trouble running through the Defensive Line with Kris Jenkins (95 OVR), one of the highest rated DL in the game.
AFC West
San Diego Chargers OVTR 88
The San Diego Chargers are one of the best teams in Madden NFL 10 because of their balance on both sides of the ball. On offense, they are led by QB Philip Rivers (89 OVR/97 SHORT ACC/94 MID ACC) who is quickly becoming one of the best in the league. Rivers has some of the most dangerous weapons in the NFL at his disposal on a weekly basis. Running backs LaDainian Tomlinson (94 OVR/95 BCV) and Darren Sproles (85 OVR/94 SPD/98 JUKE) form the best 1-2 punch rushing attack out there. TE Antonio Gates (95 OVR), Vincent Jackson (83 OVR/95 RELEASE) and Chris Chambers (78 OVR/95 JMP) form the league's 8th best receiver unit. The offensive line is led by guard Kris Dielman (92 OVR)....the entire OL unit ranks 7th in the NFL. On defense, the Chargers have one of the most ferocious pash rushes in the game with Shawne Merriman (89 OVR/99 POWER MOVE) and Shaun Phillips (89 OVR) at OLB. CB is another strength of this defense with Quentin Jammer (88 OVR), Antonio Cromartie (84 OVR/95 SPD), and Antoine Cason (77 OVR) forming the 4th best CB unit in all of pro football. If there was any weak spot on the Chargers, it would have to be the safety position. Eric Weddle (84 OVR) is good and Clinton Hart (71 OVR) is serviceable, but on a team as stacked as the San Diego Chargers, it's the weakest unit they have in 2009...Watch out league.
Oakland Raiders OVTR 71
Oakland is a team in Madden NFL 10 with some obvious strengths as well as some big time weaknesses. The Raiders boast the #3 ranked CB unit in football led by Nnamdi Asomugha (99 OVR/94 SPD/99 MAN COV) and Chris Johnson (80 OVR/91 SPD). Every single one of the Oakland cornerbacks are 90+ SPD in Madden NFL 10 (something no other team in Madden can say). At linebacker, Kirk Morrison (87 OVR/96 TAK) and Thomas Howard (85 OVR/86 SPD/88 AGI) make plays all over the field. DE Derrick Burgess (87 OVR) provides some serious pass rush and DT Tommy Kelly (80 OVR) plugs the inside for the defense. The Raiders offense has some serious holes. The Raiders rank 29th at QB with JaMarcus Russell (72 OVR/98 THP) as starter and Jeff Garcia as backup. They rank 30th at WR with Javon Walker and Derrius Heyward-Bey in the starting lineup. Heyward-Bey (97 SPD) is as fast as anyone in the league but he is very raw in terms of route running and catching the football. Zach Miller (86 OVR/87 CTH) is the best player on the offensive side of the ball for Oakland. He is going to catch a lot of balls as a security blanket for Russell.
Denver Broncos OVTR 70
Denver made some big moves in the offseason getting rid of long time head coach Mike Shanahan and QB of the future, Jay Cutler. The organization wanted a fresh start with new Head Coach Josh McDaniels, so look for the Broncos to turn into the rocky mountain version of the Patriots. The strength of the offense is at receiver. With Brandon Marshall (92 OVR/80 STR) and Eddie Royal (82 OVR/93 SPD) lining up outside, the Broncos rank as the 4th best WR unit in football. The running back stable looks completely different in 2009 as well in Denver. They spent the 12th overall pick on Knowshon Moreno (81 OVR/94 SPIN/95 JUKE/86 SPD) and free agent money on Correll Buckhalter (78 OVR) and Lamont Jordan. LT Ryan Clady (90 OVR) is one of the best young offensive linemen on all of football. Grab him in ALL of your Madden NFL 10 fantasy drafts. At QB, the Broncos go from laser armed Jay Cutler to caretaker Kyle Orton (74 OVR), a move that will definitely make the Broncos play and feel different in Madden 10. On defense, the big pick up was Safety Brian Dawkins (90 OVR). Pro Bowler Champ Bailey (96 OVR/96 SPD) is back again and now teams up with Andre Goodman (77 OVR), and rookie Alphonso Smith (76 OVR) - giving Denver the #5 ranked CB unit in the NFL this year. If you are looking for a way to beat the Broncos, look no further than their rush defense. They have the 32nd ranked DL unit and the 29th ranked LB unit with only D.J. Williams (86 OVR) the only player above 85 OVR on either of those units.
Kansas City Chiefs OVTR 69
After a 2-14 season in 2008, the Kansas City Chiefs were in need of a major makeover. Enter in new Head Coach Todd Haley (from Arizona), new franchise QB Matt Cassel (83 OVR), and good bye Chiefs legend Tony Gonzalez (traded to Atlanta). In Madden NFL 10, the Chiefs are not one of the top teams in the game. They have some weapons in WR Dwayne Bowe (86 OVR) and HB Larry Johnson (88 OVR/96 TRK/96 STIFF), guys who can move the chains for KC. TE is a huge weak spot now that Tony G. left town. Brad Cottam (72 OVR) is the current starter in Kansas City. On defense, the Chiefs added a big part of the puzzle on draft day in DE Tyson Jackson (77 OVR). He is a mammoth DE who is built to stop the run. Derrick Johnson (83 OVR/83 SPD) is inside at linebacker and provides the great sideline to sideline range. The secondary is the Chiefs biggest concern in Madden NFL 10. They have young guys who have potential like Brandon Flowers (77 OVR) and Brandon Carr (71 OVR), but they check in overall with the 32nd ranked CB unit in football.
AFC South
Houston Texans OVRT 75
If you are looking for the ultimate sleeper team in Madden NFL 10, look no further than the Houston Texans. They are a young team with star players on both sides of the ball. Starting on offense at wide receiver, Andre Johnson (98 OVR) and Kevin Walter (80 OVR) form the NFL's 9th ranked WR unit and TE Owen Daniels (86 OVR/82 SPD/87 CTH) gives QB Matt Schaub (79 OVR/89 SHORT ACCURACY/78 INJ) another big time weapon in the passing game with his speed/hands combo. If you can find a way to get rookie TE/HB James Casey on the field, do it. He is very versatile and gives the Texans the ability to show defenses a lot of different looks with two TE sets. The big question with Schaub however is his health...If he can't stay on his feet, Dan Orlovsky (63 OVR) is the backup and he is not exactly proven. Steve Slaton (87 OVR) is the real deal at running back but there is not much depth behind him with only Chris Brown (67 OVR) and Ryan Moats (69 OVR) on the depth chart. The big weak spot in the Texans offense is on the O-line (28th ranked unit in NFL). On defense, Super Mario Williams (95 OVR/84 SPD/95 FIN MOVE) is a stud at defensive end and look for him to cause even more damage to opposing backfields in 2009. The Texans added former Cardinals DE Antonio Smith in free agency, giving the Texans one of the stronger DL's in football (14th ranked unit). DeMeco Ryans (88 OVR/96 TAK) returns at middle linebacker to tackle anybody and everybody. First Round draft pick Brian Cushing was a big addition to the Texans defense. The one big area to attack this defense is via the passing game. The Texans secondary ranks 19th at CB and 27th at Safety. Cornerback Dunta Robinson (84 OVR/93 SPD) is the clear leader of the group.
Indianapolis Colts OVTR 87
The Colts have been a top team in Madden NFL Football for what seems to be over a decade. Expect more of the same in Madden NFL 10. Led by the MVP of the league, Peyton Manning (99 OVR) returns to lead the Colts offense. No longer is Marvin Harrison the #1 weapon in Indy, in fact, he no longer even resides in Indianapolis. It's the Reggie Wayne Show now (95 OVR/98 CTH). TE Dallas Clark (91 OVR/84 SPD) would be the #2 weapon in this high powered offense. He is a real game breaker at the TE position. The Colts have two nice options at RB with Joseph Addai (85 OVR) and rookie Donald Brown. On defense, it's all about the pass rush for the Colts. Dwight Freeney (94 OVR/87 SPD) and Robert Mathis (92 OVR/85 SPD) give Indy one of the most deadly pass rush duos in all of pro football. Marlin Jackson and Kelvin Hayden lock receivers down at the CB position (Colts rank 9th best in NFL for CB unit). If Bob Sanders (95 OVR/67 INJ/97 HIT POW) can stay healthy, he is one of the best in the league at strong safety, he teams up with up and coming safety Antoine Bethea (88 OVR) to form the NFL's #2 ranked Safety unit. The LB unit is where the Colts are really weak (32nd in the NFL). Veteran Gary Brackett (83 OVR) is solid, but they have little else beside him.
Jacksonville Jaguars OVTR 71
The Jaguars had a huge weakness in 2008 and it was their offensive line. So this offseason, Head Coach Jack Del Rio beefed up the OL with free agent Tra Thomas (88 OVR) and draft picks Eugene Monroe (82 OVR) and Eben Britton (78 OVR). The Jags now have the 13th best OL unit in Madden NFL 10. That is good news for Maurice Jones-Drew (89 OVR/95 SPIN/93 JUKE) and the running game. The big addition to the offense is veteran WR Torry Holt (85 OVR/92 CTH/94 ROUTE). He immediately comes in and is Jacksonville's #1 option in the passing game for QB David Garrard (78 OVR/75 SPD). The Jaguars defense is still one of the toughest in football. CBs Rashean Mathis (93 OVR) and Brian Williams (78 OVR) form the NFL's 11th ranked CB unit. DT John Henderson (88 OVR) is still working inside and MLB Daryl Smith (85 OVR/91 TAK) is there to sweep up anything Big John Henderson misses. They really need their young DE's to step up this season. Derrick Harvey (68 OVR) and Quentin Groves (70 OVR) have to get better or the Jaguars might be in for another long season.
Tennessee Titans OVTR 87
Tennessee has one of the most dominating rushing attacks in Madden NFL 10 with RB Chris Johnson (88 OVR/99 SPD) and LenDale White (79 OVR/94 TRK) leading the way. Offensive tackles Michael Roos (97 OVR) and David Stewart (92 OVR) are a big reason the Titans have the 3rd ranked OL in football. At WR the Titans are trying to make this group better, as they added Kenny Britt (76 OVR) in the 2009 NFL Draft and Nate Washington (77 OVR) in free agency. Kerry Collins (79 OVR) returns at QB with the athletic Vince Young (68 OVR/85 SPD/88 AGI) backing him up. On defense, the big challenge in 2009 will be replacing DT Albert Haynesworth who signed with Washington during free agency. Jovan Haye (80 OVR) and Tony Brown (79 OVR) are the best bets to fill the void left by Haynesworth. Michael Griffin (95 OVR) and Chris Hope (92 OVR) form the best safety duo in football this year and Courtland Finnegan (92 OVR) is turning into a true lockdown corner. Titans veteran Keith Bulluck (95 OVR) returns at outside linebacker to lead the 6th ranked LB unit in Madden NFL 10. On special teams, the Titans are indeed special with punter Craig Hentrich (81 OVR) and kicker Rob Bironas (96 OVR) forming the 4th best Special Teams unit in the NFL this season.
AFC North
Cincinnati Bengals OVTR 67
The Bengals have some really strong units as well as some big time weaknesses. On offense, the strength of the team lies with QB Carson Palmer (88 OVR/97 THP) and his receivers. With WR's Chad Ochocinco (88 OVR), Laveranues Coles (87 OVR), and Chris Henry lining up in the slot, Cincy has a deadly trio you will have to watch at all times. Cedric Benson (76 OVR) returns to lead the 31st ranked RB unit. Not much to run behind for Benson, the Bengals have the 30th ranked OL unit in the NFL. 1st round pick Andre Smith is the one guy that must dominate for this line to get better. On defense, the Bengals have a lot of work to do with the secondary. They are currently ranked 31st for CB and 20th for Safetys. Former USC linebackers Keith Rivers and rookie Rey Maualuga are the building blocks in franchise mode. The strength of the defensive line is in the middle at DT. Domata Peko (80 OVR) and Pat Sims (76 OVR) are two guys Cincinnati better keep around for a long time.
Cleveland Browns OVTR 68
The Cleveland Browns offense comes into the 2009 season having not scored an offensive touchdown since week 11 of the 2008 season. So it's safe to say there are some weak spots that need to be addressed when you take the Browns over in franchise mode. It starts at QB where Brady Quinn (71 OVR) and Derek Anderson (70 OVR/95 THP) are in a fight for the starting position. The winner of this position battle will do a lot of handing off to Jamal Lewis (85 OVR/97 TRK/83 SPD) and throwing to Braylon Edwards (86 OVR/90SPD/99 JMP)... the one legitimate gamebreaker the Browns offense does posses. No more Kellen Winslow at TE (Robert Royal starting now) and Donte Stallworth is gone at WR (legal issues). One bright spot is the 11th ranked offensive line unit, with Pro Bowler Joe Thomas (97 OVR) and Eric Steinbach (93 OVR) dominating the left side of the line. First Round pick Alex Mack is someone to build around and/or trade for in franchise mode, he is a beast at center. On defense, DT Shaun Rogers (95 OVR/98 POWER MOVE) is a monster and you cannot run straight at this guy. Along with 3-4 defensive ends Kenyon Coleman (79 OVR) and Corey Williams (81 OVR), the Browns Defensive Line is the strength of the team right now as they have the 8th best DL unit in football. The secondary on the other hand is a pretty big weakness heading into 2009. The Browns have the 30th ranked Safety unit and the 23rd ranked CB unit in the NFL. Eric Wright (79 OVR) is the best CB and has a bright future. At middle linebacker, D'Qwell Jackson (86 OVR/97 TAK) is a tackling machine and will be counted on for an even bigger season after his 150+ tackle season last year. Joshua Cribbs (89 SPD/98 RETURN/94 ELUSIVE) is a weapon every time he touches the ball on special teams, try and kick away from him whenever possible.
Pittsburgh Steelers OVTR 92
The defending Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers are led by their #1 ranked defense and the leader of that unit is Madden NFL 10 cover athlete Troy Polamalu (99 OVR). Polamalu is a big time playmaker in the mold of Rod Woodson, making big time hits as well as spectacular interceptions. Joining him in the secondary are Steelers veterans DeShea Townsend (82 OVR) and Ike Taylor (86 OVR), as well as free safety Ryan Clark (83 OVR/90+ HIT POWER). The strength of the defense is at linebacker where Pittsburgh has the #1 unit in the NFL. The Steelers use a 3-4 defensive scheme which means that 4 LB's are on the field at all times. James Harrison (97 OVR) and LaMarr Woodley (88 OVR) rush the quarterback from the outside LB positions while James Farrior (95 OVR) and Lawrence Timmons (74 OVR) focus on stopping the run on the inside. The defensive front is built to stop the run (not rush the passer) and they do it very well. Nose Tackle Casey Hampton (91 OVR) is a wall and Aaron Smith (91 OVR) is one of the best run stopping ends in the NFL. Two-time Super Bowl Champion Ben Roethlisberger (93 OVR/97 THROW ON RUN) returns at QB and hopes WR Santonio Holmes (86 OVR) is ready to build on a tremendous playoff run. Dependable vets Hines Ward (89 OVR) and Heath Miller (88 OVR) are always there as a safety valve for Big Ben. Fast Willie Parker (86 OVR) and Rashard Mendenhall (72 OVR) are there to carry the Steelers ground game. The one weak spot for the Steelers again is the offensive line. Tackle Max Starks (83 OVR) and Center Justin Hartwig (86 OVR) are the only bright spots.
Baltimore Ravens OVTR 82
The Ravens have traditionally been very tough on defense over the last decade and things will be no different in Madden NFL 10. Led by perennial Pro Bowlers Ed Reed (99 OVR/97 ZONE/84 CTH) and Ray Lewis (97 OVR/97 TAK), the Ravens are definitely one of the top defensive teams this year in Madden. OLB Terrell Suggs (90 OVR) wrecks havoc on the outside and DE Haloti Nagata (90 OVR/97 STR) is a force against the run. CB Fabian Washington (77 OVR/98 SPD) is back to build on a solid season and he is paired up with free agent pickup Dominique Foxworth (82 OVR/93 SPD), forming one of the faster starting duos in the league. On offense, QB Joe Flacco (81 OVR/97 THP) is back for his sophomore season and is ready to open the offense up a bit more this year. Many of the same faces return: WR Derrick Mason (88 OVR/94 CTH) leads the 20th ranked WR unit, the three-headed monster of Willis McGahee (83 OVR), Ray Rice (78 OVR), and Fullback Le'Ron McClain (92 OVR/89 TRK) will share the carries again this year, and Todd Heap (84 OVR) is back at TE. On the offensive line, the Ravens have some great building blocks in Guard Ben Grubbs (87 OVR) and Tackles Jared Gaither (81 OVR) and 1st Round Pick Michael Oher (77 OVR).
NFC East
Dallas Cowboys OVTR 85
The Dallas Cowboys have elite talent all over the field, on both sides of the ball in Madden NFL 10 but big questions still remain as to whether they are ready to take it to the next level...Everything starts on offense with QB Tony Romo (87 OVR). The story this season is how will Romo do without Terrell Owens in the lineup? Roy Williams (84 OVR), Patrick Crayton (73 OVR), and Miles Austin (71 OVR/91 SPD) need to really step their games up to make up for the loss of T.O. At the tight end position there should be no problems at all, as the Cowboys have the league's 2nd ranked unit with Jason Witten (97 OVR/95 ROUTES) and Martellus Bennett (75 OVR) giving Romo lots of options in two TE formations. Despite the perceived bad season for the Cowboys in 2008, they still had 3 Pro Bowlers from the 5th ranked O-Line unit in the NFL...Guard Leonard Davis (90 OVR), Center Andre Gurode (93 OVR), and Flozell "The Hotel" Adams (86 OVR) all made the trip to Hawaii this February. They are blocking for what is arguably the deepest stable of running backs in football...Marion Barber III (88 OVR/94 TRK) gives you the power, Felix Jones (78 OVR/96 SPD) gives you the excitement, and Tashard Choice (76 OVR) brings a little of both. On defense, OLB DeMarcus Ware (98 OVR/98 POW MOVE/99 FINESSE MOVE) is the leader and impact player. Ware should be rushing the passer each and every down in Madden NFL 10, you don't want him in pass coverage if you can help it. Inside at Linebacker in the Dallas 3-4, Keith Brooking (86 OVR) was added in the offseason from the Falcons and teams up with Bradie James (82 OVR) to form the NFL's 2nd best Linebacker unit in Madden NFL 10. Terence Newman (88 OVR/97 SPD)is the top CB on the roster but watch out for Orlando Scandrick and Mike Jenkins as well; they give the Cowboys great depth at the position. DT Jay Ratliff (87 OVR) brings a big time pass rush force from the inside with 7 sacks in 2008. The Cowboys special teams unit is also one of the best in the league. Kicker Nick Folk (88 OVR/96 KAC) and Punter Mat McBriar (95 OVR/99 KPW) make things easy when you are a coach.
Washington Redskins OVTR 79
The Redskins are one of the more balanced teams in Madden NFL 10. Clinton Portis (93 OVR/91 SPIN/92 JUKE) leads the rushing attack while Jason Campbell (77 OVR/88 THP) returns to lead the passing game. Campbell has some pretty nice weapons in his arsenal. Santana Moss (86 OVR/96 SPD) can score from anywhere on the field and TE Chris Cooley (91 OVR/93 ROUTES) - who set a career high in 2008 in receptions and yardage - is Mr. Dependable in this Redskins offense. The Hogs O-Line ranks as the 8th best unit in the NFL, led by veterans Chris Samuels (93 OVR) and Randy Thomas (89 OVR). On defense, the offseason focus was on the Defensive Line. The Redskins signed free agent Albert Haynesworth (99 OVR/99 STR/98 POW MOVE) who became the NFL's first defensive $100 Million Dollar Man and spent a 1st round pick on DE/OLB hybrid Brian Orakpo (76 OVR/92 PURSUIT/88 POW MOVE) from Texas. The Redskins now have the 6th ranked D-Line unit in football after those moves. MLB London Fletcher (89 OVR/97 TAK) is back for another season to anchor the LB unit and Rocky McIntosh (77 OVR) is a guy to really watch in franchise mode at outside linebacker. Carlos Rogers (87 OVR/93 PRESS) and DeAngelo Hall (79 OVR/97 SPD/87 MAN COV) are the starters at corner for the 13th best CB unit in the NFL while LaRon Landry (86 OVR/94 HIT POW) is lethal with the hit stick at free safety. The biggest weakness on the Redskins entire team is the special teams. They have the 27th ranked unit with Kicker Shaun Suisham (52 OVR) and Hunter Smith (81 OVR).
New York Giants OVTR 89
The Giants are a force to be reckoned with in Madden NFL 10, especially on the defensive side of the ball...With the #3 ranked DL in the NFL led behind DE's Justin Tuck (95 OVR) and Osi Umenyiora (94 OVR), it is really hard to have time to do anything on offense when you have those beasts breathing down your neck as quarterback. When you do get a pass off, you are going up against the 6th best CB unit in football with Corey Webster (90 OVR/94 ZONE) and Aaron Ross (81 OVR) as starters. The G-Men picked up free agents DT Rocky Bernard (80 OVR) and LB Michael Boley (82 OVR) to strengthen this group even more. On offense, it completely revolves around the #1 ranked O-Line unit in the NFL and bruising HB Brandon Jacobs (90 OVR/99 TRK/98 STIFF). RG Chris Snee (97 OVR) is the best of the bunch on the line. Good news is that QB Eli Manning (87 OVR/88 THP/87 DAC) returns for his 6th season as QB of the Giants. Bad news is that he does not have many weapons in his bag of tricks after losing WR's Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer as well as HB Derrick Ward. 1st Round Pick rookie WR Hakeem Nicks (76 OVR/90 JMP/87 CIT), Steve Smith (76 OVR) and Domenik Hixon (70 OVR) must step up for this 25th ranked WR unit in order for the Giants to have another shot at the Super Bowl. TE Kevin Boss (83 OVR/88 JMP/85 CIT) will be one of your favorite red zone options with that enormous 6 foot 7, 270lb target to throw to. Keep your eye out for 6 foot 6 rookie WR Ramses Barden (66 OVR/82 SPD/95 JMP) as well...He is not a burner by any means, but he will be deadly in jump ball situations in Madden NFL 10.
Philadelphia Eagles OVTR 88
The Eagles have had arguably the best off-season of any team in football after beefing up the offensive line with LT Jason Peters (95 OVR/98 RBS/97RBF) and Stacy Andrews (87 OVR); they then traded for CB Ellis Hobbs (83 OVR) to bolster the secondary after losing Lito Shepherd to the Jets...not to mention the brand new weapons QB Donovon McNabb (90 OVR) has to play with in rookies WR Jeremy Maclin (78 OVR/96 SPD) and RB LeSean McCoy (75 OVR/92 SPD/91 ELUS). Philadelphia has one of the strongest offenses in Madden NFL 10 this year, ranking 6th in QB, 3rd at RB, 4th in OL, and 15th at WR. The only sore spot on the offensive side of the ball is at TE (ranked 30th), currently Brent Celek (73 OVR) and rookie Cornelius Ingram (63 OVR/84 SPD) are the best the Eagles have at that position. Almost forget to mention studs like Brian Westbrook (94 OVR) and DeSean Jackson (81 OVR/95 SPD/95 ELUS) - Points will not be hard to come by in Madden NFL 10 when you play with Philly...On defense, the biggest loss will be Brian Dawkins at Safety who left for Denver. Filling in for Dawkins will be Quintin Mikell (83 OVR) and former Cleveland Brown Sean Jones (80 OVR). Better not throw on the Eagles unless you have to, they check in with the #1 ranked CB unit in the NFL with ballhawk Asante Samuel (95 OVR), Sheldon Brown (87 OVR), Hobbs, and Joselio Hanson (75 OVR). Helping out this top ranked secondary is the 12th ranked DL unit in football, led by Trent Cole (91 OVR/96 FIN) and DTs Brodrick Bunkley and Mike Patterson. The biggest weakness on defense is at LB. The Eagles have the 31st ranked LB unit in Madden NFL 10 with MLB Stewart Bradley (77 OVR/86 TAK) leading a young and upcoming group.
NFC West
St Louis Rams OVTR 66
The Rams are not one of the top rated teams in Madden NFL 10 and that should not come as a shock after a 2-14 2008 regular season where they fired their head coach and got rid of two Ram legends (WR Torry Holt and Tackle Orlando Pace)...That being said, they have some real weapons to work with on the offensive side of the ball with guys like HB Steven Jackson (92 OVR/95 TRK) and Donnie Avery (75 OVR/94 SPD). Avery is the only guy you have to worry about as a defensive coordinator though, as St. Louis has the 32nd ranked WR unit in Madden NFL 10 with guys like Laurent Robinson (72 OVR) and Keenan Burton (62 OVR) filling out the rest of the lineup. Veteran QB Marc Bulger (78 OVR/82 THP/90 SAC) is still the man under center for the Rams, but his numbers have been trending down for some time now, I would not expect big things from Bulger in 2009 in the real world or in Madden...The big additions on offense were to the offensive line, so hopefully that gives more room for Steven Jackson to move and more time for Bulger to throw. Rookie Tackle Jason Smith (84 OVR) and free agent Center Jason Brown (90 OVR) are the building blocks for the future in St. Louis. On defense, it all goes thru LB Will Witherspoon (86 OVR) and FS O.J. Atogwe (90 OVR/81 CTH/91 ZONE). With new free agent James Butler (80 OVR/96 JMP) teaming up with Atogwe at Safety, the Rams have the 8th ranked Safety unit in the NFL. Ron Bartell (81 OVR) is a lockdown CB for the Rams, but after him there is little else (30th ranked CB unit). The one area where the Rams do excel is special teams, where Kicker Josh Brown (92 OVR/97 KPW) and Donnie Jones (87 OVR) rank as the 3rd best unit in football.
San Francisco 49ers OVTR 73
The 49ers are a team on the upswing and it shows this year in Madden NFL 10...Led by RB Frank Gore (91 OVR/87 TRK/90 ELUS) on the offensive side of the ball and Patrick Willis (98 OVR - #1 ranked MLB in Madden NFL 10) on defense, the 49ers have some big time stars to build around in franchise mode. They do have some serious weaknesses to address in Year 1 if they want to be considered a playoff threat...First at QB, Shaun Hill (69 OVR) and Alex Smith (67 OVR) are in a tight race for that job, but regardless of who wins that battle, it is still a major sore spot (31st ranked in NFL). Next is the 28th ranked Safety unit...SS Michael Lewis (80 OVR/88 TAK/88 HIT POW) is an enforcer against the run but weak in coverage and Dashon Goldson (65 OVR) is below average in both. Finally, DE Justin Smith is good, but he's all they got on the NFL's 23rd ranked defensive line unit, a certain area for improvement in franchise mode. It's not all doom and gloom with the Niners however, watch out for the young guns at wide receiver Michael Crabtree (84 OVR/95 SPEC CTH) and Josh Morgan (74 OVR). Physical freak TE Vernon Davis (78 OVR/88 SPD) is still starting but is turning into more of a blocker than a downfield pass catcher at this point in his career. Punter Andy Lee (92 OVR) and Kicker Joe Nedney (84 OVR) lead the 5th ranked special teams unit.
Seattle Seahawks OVTR 77
The Seahawks are a well balanced team, despite what the 4-12 record in 2008 might suggest. Matt Hasselbeck (84 OVR/88 SAC/85 MAC/73 DAC) returns to lead the Seahawks passing game with new weapon T.J. Houshmandzadeh (91 OVR) and second year TE John Carlson (87 OVR). Add Deion Branch (79 OVR) and Nate Burleson (74 OVR) to the mix and you have Madden NFL 10's 7th ranked WR unit. One last thing about the Seattle passing game....Remember this name - rookie Deon Butler (65 OVR/94 SPD), he is deadly when you move him in the slot. The running game (ranked 32nd) however, should be a big focus for you in franchise mode to improve with Julius Jones (75 OVR/85 ELUS) and T.J. Duckett (66 OVR/93 TRK) splitting the carries this year in Madden NFL 10. The defense should give the Seahawks fans lots of hope this year, both in real life and in the video game world. Seattle has the 3rd ranked LB unit in football with Lofa Tatupu (90 OVR), Leroy Hill (83 OVR), and rookie sensation Aaron Curry (84 OVR) patrolling the sidelines. Patrick Kerney (93 OVR) is still a beast at defensive end and free agent acquisition Colin Cole (79 OVR) immediately steps in and is the Seahawks best DT. You would be foolish to attack the Seattle secondary (7th ranked in CB, 14th in Safety). Led by Marcus Trufant (88 OVR/97 JMP), Josh Wilson (77 OVR/95 SPD), and Ken Lucas (77 OVR), these guys are going to be locking up WR's all year long in Madden NFL 10.
Arizona Cardinals OVTR 86
The defending NFC Champions boast the #1 passing attack in Madden NFL 10...Led by cover boy Larry Fitzgerald (99 OVR), Anquan Boldin (94 OVR), and slot-man Steve Breaston (79 OVR) the Cardinals rank as the #1 WR unit and are an absolute nightmare to cover this year in Madden...Pro Bowl QB Kurt Warner is back for another season and sports some of the best short and mid accuracy ratings in all of the Madden universe (99 SAC/96 MAC)...Chris "Beanie" Wells was added in the NFL Draft to help out the 28th ranked rushing unit in the game, to go along with a very average O-Line (ranked 24th in NFL)...Watch out for the Beanie Wells 97 rated stiff arm, it is deadly...The Cardinals defense is no slouch this year with superstars such as Adrian Wilson (97 OVR), Karlos Dansby (91 OVR), and Darnell Dockett (94 OVR) lining up...The stud on the defensive side of the ball has to be Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and his 96 SPD/99 JMP/90 MAN COV...Grab him in every fantasy draft you are in, he is just oozing with potential in Madden NFL 10.
NFC South
Atlanta Falcons OVTR 81
In the span of 2 seasons, the Atlanta offense has gone from laughing stock to powerhouse...They have all the skill positions covered now: QB Matt Ryan (85 OVR), Michael Turner (95 OVR), Roddy White (93 OVR), and Tony Gonzalez (98 OVR)...Not to mention dangerous backup RB Jerious Norwood and his breakaway 95 SPD...The offensive line is the weak spot on the offensive side of the ball, but they have Guard Harvey Dahl and Tackle Sam Baker to build around...The Falcons defense will be the thing that holds them back from the Super Bowl this year...John Abraham (95 OVR) is the only elite player on the defense...They have the 30th ranked LB unit in the league, 27th ranked CB unit, and the 31st ranked Safety unit...On offense however, they rank 2nd at RB, 10th at WR, and 1st at TE.
Carolina Panthers OVTR 83
This Panthers team went 12-4 in 2008 and they kept most of the same pieces in play for the 2009 season...Carolina has one of the most dangerous running attacks in all of Madden football...The 2-headed monster of DeAngelo Williams (94 OVR) and Jonathan Stewart (85 OVR) makes you sell out all your defensive resources against the run when you play the Panthers...Carolina will lull you to sleep with all the running and then knock you over the head with one of the best WR's in football Steve Smith (97 OVR)...Jordan Gross and Jeff Otah form a nasty duo to run behind on the Panthers OL...Stud DE Julius Peppers is still in Carolina, so look for him to wreck havoc in opposing Madden 10 backfields all year long...Carolina is ranked Top 10 in RB (5th), WR (8th), and OL (9th)...Their worst units are TE (29th) and Safety (26th).
Tampa Bay Buccaneers OVTR 74
The Bucs are a team that is much more dangerous on offense than defense, something that you have not been able to say for a decade in Tampa Bay...With the additions of laser-armed/fleet footed (96 THP/74 SPD) Josh Freeman, TE Kellen Winslow will team up with 86 OVR WR Antonio Bryant to form a deadly duo in the passing game, and also former Giants RB Derrick Ward now leading the rushing game, the Bucs offense is definitely a sleeping giant in Madden 10...The Bucs offensive line is one of the best young OL's in football (ranking 12th in NFL)...The downside with the Bucs in Madden NFL 10 is the defense....they sport the 28th ranked DL in the league, as well as the 25th at Saftey...Ronde Barber (88 OVR) is starting to hit the downside of his career despite his Pro Bowl appearance in 2008, and his SPD is starting to show it (79 SPD with new stretched out ratings)...Barrett Ruud (87 OVR) is the player to build around in franchise mode, he is a tackling machine.
New Orleans Saints OVTR 74
The Saints live and die with Drew Brees and the passing game...Lucky for them, Brees is the most accurate QB in Madden NFL 10 with his 98 short accuracy, 96 mid accuracy, and 90 deep ball accuracy...The receiving unit is led by WR's Marques Colston (87 OVR) and Lance Moore (81 OVR), and Tight End Jeremy Shockey (85 OVR)...The running game is a true Running Back By Committee situation with Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas splitting the carries...Bush is the fast, elusive back who is the ultimate weapon out of the backfield (but is injury prone)...P. Thomas is the short yardage grinder in this Saints offense...Jahri Evans the leader of this offensive line, look for him to be around for many years in franchise mode, you can really build a line around this guy...Despite making big time moves in the off-season adding Jabari Greer and Malcolm Jenkins to the Defensive Back unit, New Orleans is still one of the worst secondaries in the NFL...The Saints have a Top 10 unit at QB...However, they rank 27th in the league at Linebackers and have the 29th ranked Special Teams unit.
NFC North
Minnesota Vikings OVTR 80
The Vikings are a team of extremes...Best RB unit in NFL...2nd best DL unit...Worst QB unit...They are a team you definitely have to be careful how you use them...Don't just chunk it deep with Tarvaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels...You need to use that running game with All Day Adrian Peterson (97 OVR) and Chester Taylor (78 OVR)...Then lull them to sleep with a play action, and send 97 SPD Bernard Berrian and rookie Percy Harvin on deep routes for the quick strike...On defense, the Vikes have arguably the best front 4 in football with 98 OVR Jared Allen, 97 OVR Kevin Williams, and 91 OVR Pat Williams...DO NOT RUN UP THE MIDDLE on this brick wall...CB Antoine Winfield a beast against the run as well (one of best Tackle ratings in game for CB)...Minnesota ranks in the Top 10 in the following categories: RB (1st), DL (2nd)...They have the 32nd rated QB unit, by far the biggest weakness on the roster.
Detroit Lions OVTR 65
Despite the 0-16 record from 2008, the 2009 Detroit Lions have some weapons and can be dangerous in Madden if used properly...It all starts with getting the ball to 92 OVR Calvin Johnson...Calvin can just about out-jump, out-muscle, and out-run every defensive back in the league...Daunte Culpepper is the starting QB for Detroit, and he should have the Throw Power to get it there....And if he struggles at all, you can always put in laser armed #1 overall pick Matthew Stafford...The running game is in good hands with Kevin Smith (80 OVR), but the OL is where you might have some big time struggles (29th ranked unit in NFL)...The Lions LB unit is the strength of their defense this year with Julian Peterson, Larry Foote, and Ernie Sims leading the way...Top 10 Detroit units: LB (5th)...Worst units: QB (28th), OL (29th), DL (29th), and CB (28th).
Green Bay Packers OVTR 78
The Packers will have a brand new look on defense changing to the 3-4 in Madden 10...Pro Bowl DE Aaron Kampman moves to OLB in the new defensive scheme...Rookie Clay Matthews will be a force from the other OLB position...Packers boast one of the best 1-2 WR duos in football with Greg Jennings (90 OVR) and Donald Driver (85 OVR)...They also have the best 1-2 punch at CB in the NFL with Charles Woodson and Al Harris...The Pack are a Top 10 NFL unit at WR (5th), LB (7th), CB (2nd), and Safety (5th)...They do have the 31st ranked OL unit however, an obvious area to target in franchise mode to upgrade.
Chicago Bears OVTR 79
Former Denver QB Jay Cutler adds an entire new element to the Bears offensive system, namely the ability to throw the deep ball...Devin Hester and his 99 SPD will be one of Cutler's main targets in Madden NFL 10...Matt Forte is an absolute every down back with his 99 Stamina...The Bears still are monsters of the midway, at least at the LB position with Lance Briggs (95 OVR) and Brian Urlacher (94 OVR) patrolling the field...Bears rank in the Top 10 position units at QB (9th), RB (11th), LB (4th) and Special Teams (7th)...The worst unit for Chicago is their WR unit which ranks 29 of 32 in the NFL.
