Trayvon Martin R.I.P.

"ORLANDO, Fla. — The family of a Florida teen who was fatally shot after an encounter with a neighborhood watch leader on Thursday asked the police department investigating the death to release 911 tapes that may help explain how the young man died.

Family members said 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, of Miami, was visiting his father and soon-to-be stepmother last month at their home in a gated community in the Orlando suburb of Sanford. He had gone to a convenience store to buy some Skittles candy and was returning home when he was confronted by an armed man who was head of the local neighborhood watch, family member said.

The man hasn't been charged. His name was redacted along with Martin's name in an initial police report but he was identified as 28-year-old George Zimmerman in a police report released Thursday.

The report said Zimmerman initially called police to report a suspicious person in the neighborhood and minutes later 911 dispatchers received several calls of shots being fired in the neighborhood. Zimmerman told police officers that he had shot Martin and officers found a semiautomatic handgun on him. The report said that Zimmerman's back was wet and he was covered in grass as if he had been on the ground. He was bleeding from his nose and the back of the head, the report said."

Could it be racial profiling? Apparently, Martin looked "suspicious", he had a hoody with skittles and iced tea in his hand. I just wanted to make a thread on this because I thought it deserved it's own thread, what are your thoughts?

O yea, I failed to mention, Zimmerman has not been charged for murder, apparently there was audio that you can find on the internet where Zimmerman, under his voice called Trayvon a "coon" before killing him. It's just sickening that everyone wants to talk about Kony, but barely anyone is talking about this matter, it's extremely sad.

wow havent heard of this yet. this shits ridiculous. im assuming zimmerman is white of course. he'll get what he has coming to him. a judge wont mess this up for trayvon martins family

i think zimmerman is latino, but everyone thinks that he will get away with murder. they have yet to arrest him i guess

This is a disturbing miscarriage of justice for many reasons. Putting aside the fact that George Zimmerman shot Trayvon Martin, even if he HAD a legitimate reason to do so under the law, the police should have immediately questioned him, collected any evidence from the incident, and started an investigation. Even cases of self-defense shootings are investigated - because it must be proven that the act of self-defense is justified. However, as far as I've read, this wasn't done on that day last month, and Mr. Zimmerman still possesses his firearm. What happened here? Did the police completely forget their protocols, forget how to process a case such as this?

I don't know if you can call it 'racial profiling' as such, but obviously Zimmerman disregarded the instructions of the emergency responder NOT to pursue Martin. Martin was NOT on Zimmerman's property, and the only thing he said to the responder was that the individual "looked suspicious", not that he appeared to be taking part in suspicious activity. Even so, according to the Neighborhood watch's official website - http://www.usaonwatch.org/ - neighborhood watch members never confront threats on their own, and always contact authorities first, so it is clear Zimmerman acted counter to his stated purpose.

As misguided as Mr. Zimmerman's actions were, the failure of local police to act properly toward this incident is truly unacceptable, and is what precipitated the entire mess.

I find it funny that they identify him as a "light-skin Hispanic" when he's half-white :S Anyways I really don't understand how you can claim a 140 Lb boy whooped your 250 Lb ass, to the point that you had to pull out the pistol that you obviously took with you as you saw "suspicious looking" boy walking down the street, skittles and sweet tea in hand... I just can't comprehend how a police officer can respond to this scene, see this skinny kid in a pool of blood and honestly believe this man's claim of self-defence.

i saw and read a little bit online , seems like Zimmerman , was too amped for his job taking it extremely serious to me there isnt anything he can say of why he killed Travon period.

Which is even more sadder that in cases like these , the cops majority of the time get off.
