Due to the big mess of constantly repeated questions in the Official Haircut thread I've decided to do this barbershop thread to kinda help sort out and answer as many FAQs as me and the other barbers can answer, give tips, advice, pics and vids. I want this to be as interactive as possible. People can message me for any questions they have and I'll do my best to post the on the 1st page as quickly as possible.
Everyone should post pics of haircuts they have and cuts they've given. This is pretty much an extension of the Haircut Thread so it's for everyone. Now on to business!

The Barbers are:
Angel
Eric.
TK ALLDAY
nikesnmikes
Ray_Ray2433
Breaker
SOLEFRESH23
BlackChiney8

Feel free to ask questions and we will answer to the best of our knowledge and experince

-What is a lineup/shapeup?

-What are the best clippers?
There is no definite answer for this. It always depends on the barbers stroke and comfortability with them. The most commonly used clippers are:
andis masters

-what trimmer is best for lineups/shapeups?
Just about the same answer for the clippers. The T-Ouliner is smaller and fits in the hand better but gets hot a bit faster than most of us would like. The Styliner 2 is a bit bigger and heavier but cuts exactly the same as the T-Outliner and doesn't get hot. It also costs less. Most commonly used trimmers are:
andis t-outliner

-What is a promate blade? How much difference does a Promate blade make? should I get one?

-Pro-mate Trimmer Blade for Andis* T-Outliner* and Styliner 2 - Smoother glide on skin Diamond Carbon Film Coating Technology - Cooler operation, blade stays sharper longer Deeper Teeth - Deeper teeth for better cutting coarse, wet or curling hair Pre-set Blades - Closest cut, adjustable
-Theres really no reason to make the switch. It does cut with a lot less effort but the andis blades do the job just as good

-What are guards/combs for? What kind of guards/combs should I use for my clippers?
Guards give you a length to cut at. For example, my gaurds go like this
#1 – one-eighth of an inch
#2 – one-quarter of an inch
#3 – three-eighths of an inch
#4 – one-half of an inch
#7 – seven-eighths of an inch
#8 – one inch

-how do i use a straight razor?

I suggest using conditioner/aloe and or silicone when shaving with a razor even though the barber in the vid says not to. It provides a much smoother glide

What kind of straight razor should I get? What blades do I use?
- These are the most common razors you'll see in a barber shop. You can get em for less than $5
Click to show pictures

- These are the blades that are used with these types of holders. There are a few different brands. Break it in half and place in the holder as you see in the pic above

-How do i adjust my blades for the closest cut?

-How do I maintain my clippers so they stay in tip top shape?

-Is it possible to give youself a fade?
Yes it is but it takes time and patience. Heres a few vids

[/quote]

-Where can I get all the materials that the barbers use?
You can find most if not all barber materials like clippers, trimmers, razors, neck dusters, after shave etc...at your local beauty shops, amazon, ebay and other barber product websites. I will compile a list of links as soon as I can
If anyone needs any further explanations regarding the pics and vids feel free to ask
Cuz I be kickin the real...while they be losin the race tryin to chase mass appeal

the shapeup video is terrible lol, probably some new guy cutting hair. I hate going to the barber shop even though its my boy that cuts my hair. Dude be talking to me, phone, other customers, and sometimes drinking, eating or smoking a cig. About to get a clipper and buzz myself up.

I'm about to get clippers any recommendation? I'm not looking for no oster for $120. Looking to pay no more than $60. Let me know which ones are good and where can I get it. Also I'm confused about the clippers, like switching the blade and the metal and plastic pieces. Can someone elaborate on that? I usually get a 1 all around. I see my barber has like a metal clip on the end of the machine and he puts the 1 (plastic piece ) on top. Are all machines like that?

the shapeup video is terrible lol, probably some new guy cutting hair.
^^ you should get Andis clippers, they run about like 50 bucks. They good for self cutting. I used them to cut my hair.
