Khan says May/Pac won't happen and talks about Peterson

EDIT: JUST GOT POSTED. KHAN/PETERSON ii IN VEGAS FOR MAY 19TH
Quote:
Newly-crowned IBF/WBA titlewinner Lamont Peterson has agreed in principle to an HBO-televised return bout against Amir Khan, the man he dethroned last month for the belts by disputed decision, on May 19 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas, Peterson's publicist, Andre Johnson, told RingTV.com on Thursday.

"We've come to terms with Golden Boy Promotions in principle. Lamont signed a letter of agreement as of today to do a rematch with Amir Khan at the Mandalay Bay on May 19 to be televised live on HBO. This came after some long and careful consideration by Lamont and Team Peterson," said Johnson.

" Lamont had weighed every option available to him -- some public and some private. There were several options available to us in terms of fights and directions that Lamont could have taken. But at the end of the day, this made the most sense on every level across the board."

In choosing to face Khan (26-2, 18 knockouts), Peterson (29-1-1, 15 KOs) has eschewed an offer from Top Rank CEO Bob Arum for a proposed bout with RING lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez on July 14 at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, with the winner to get a shot at that between WBO welterweight titleholder Manny Pacquiao and WBO junior welterweight beltholder Tim Bradley that is being targeted for June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

"I confirmed that it's all signed. We have indeed reached an agreement. I believe that the rematch between Lamont and Amir is one of the most anticipated fights, and both of these young men are tremendous athletes and they gave it their all in December," said Schaefer.

"I expect that the rematch, which will take place on May 19 on HBO World Championship Boxing from the Mandalay Bay will be another terrific night of boxing. It was a hard and long negotiation, but I am glad that in the end, both fighters get the opportunity to face each other again."

Peterson defeated Khan in December at the Washington Convenction Center in Peterson's native Washington, D.C., although the WBA ordered an immediate rematch in response to an appeal by Khan.

WBA President Gilberto Mendoza granted Peterson 10 days from Jan. 14 to appeal the organization's decision, and Peterson, in turn, filed an official protest of the WBA's order, which has been dropped.

Peterson's appeal came in the wake of Golden Boy Promotions withdrawing its own filing against the IBF, a move which canceled a hearing scheduled for the next day with that organization in New Jersey.

Golden Boy and Khan had been seeking to overturn the victory or get an order for an immediate rematch on the grounds that the fight was poorly officiated and that there were scorecard descrepancies.

"The decision wasn't influenced by protests or by negative comments by the other side or any of that. The only influence was that this was the decision that best suited Lamont Peterson. Lamont took as much time as he needed to weigh every option available equally," said Johnson.

"We stacked them up against each other and weighed them across the board and then he decided what made the most sense for his future and for his career right now, and he wanted this fight."

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told RingTV.com that he offered Peterson "a 50-50 split of world wide revenues and United Kingdom revenues" in the hopes of securing a rematch with Khan.

Peterson was initially offered $1 million by Schaefer to face Khan in a return bout after having pocketed a career-best $650,000 to Khan's $1.1 million in their first bout.

To chiguy for that alternate Mayweather vs Ortiz view. I could clearly see that Ortiz was intentionally headbutting Floyd .

I call it otherwise. I think Khan stays away and makes it a boring ass fight. Peterson fought a good fight last time but he did get some gift points. I don't think that happens in Vegas. Khan by close but convincing decision.

Possibly. But I think the Peterson camp could put together a good game plan to knock him out. They already know that he can't fight on the inside; I think they will take advantage of those flaws this time. Or Perhaps I just want to see his ass get ko'd

Either way I still have Peterson winning it again.

I would like to see Peterson win. Khan knows this is major I fully expect him to come to fight and this time he knows he can't back pedal. One lose is cool but two back to back makes Khan out of the picture for awhile.

^That's why I don't listen to up and comers.Everything is a business move. He won't fight a well known fighter like Malinaggi but he calls out Mayweather and Ortiz for turning down fights. Malinaggi hit it on the head. How can you really be a warrior if you turn down good fights. He never even fought Marcos then he wants to fight Floyd and Ortiz it doesn't work like that.

Guererro's turned himself into a clown in the eyes of the boxing public. I want to see if how he answers Malinaggi. I've never been a fan of PM but I'll give him props, he's tough and will fight anyone. Kept fighting against Cotto with a broken jaw, fought Juan Diaz x 2, Hatton, Khan. He talks, but is willing to fight too. It doesn't look like it's the same case with Guerrero.

Pacquiao-Bradley now official according to Todd Duboef of TR.

"Todd duBoef @ToddDuboef
I just signed Tim Bradley's contract for fight against Pacquiao on June 9 at MGM.

I guess MGM is good now, they don't need the "temporary stadium". Lol
