I don't know where all the old sketch threads went which is sad bc it should be one of the last things to go in the art forum.

In a day where computer arts is expanding, I find it sad that people today refuse to learn to draw. I guarantee you that if you want to succeed in any art field, you also must learn to convey your messages quickly and clearly by hand.

This thread is for everyone to post their sketches. I figured we run it like the past graffitti thread where people post a word and we respond with sketches that relate to the word. This does not mean you have to post finished masterpieces, but have fun doodling as a way to keep up. This thread should be used as an outlet for practice above all.

So with that said, put away the mouse and keyboard and pick up a pencil, pen, crayons, whatever...

First word:
LADY

"Porschla"

what I'm working on now. Gotta fix her left eye as it's looking rather flat and lifeless and finish the rest.

feel free to throw in new words if this thread starts to die. keep this thing going!

Blind contour. Sketch done without picking up pencil or looking down at the page. Meant to quickly portray motion, action and/or posture.

"Belly Dancer"

"Untitled"

Were you intentionally smudging her arm? Charcoal and pastels are one thing but never smudge graphite.

Her eye is huge, but it gives it a caricature-like exaggeration.

Assignment for class was to make a piece dealing with trains, for some reason i wanted to do those bullet trains in japan immediately and emphasize their speed, so i looked at the futurist painters and how they showed movement and speed, the background was supposed to be some sort of futuristic tunnel but i failed, perhaps i should have done it on black paper? My professor like it at least

Makes sense since the bullet train would be the technological subject of many Futurist artists. Background makes it look completely static. And I don't know if the faint repetition of the trains portray the speed of a bullet train. Looks more like vibration that forward motion. I would maybe have abstracted the form of maybe just the end of the train like Boccioni's sculpture, "Unique Form of Continuity in Space".

As for the bg, I don't think black would help, but maybe if you blurred the background as you would not be able to clearly articulate something while in motion. In fact, I would use a mixture of colors like a Carra painting.

Yea I killed it, I plan on revisiting the piece in the near future, with a change in the structure of the tunnel I think the movement shown would be alright, I thought black paper cause the brown kinda of takes away form the color of the trains I think, not sure but if redone I would def change the color of the paper, blurring the background would be very interesting I think though - Thanks

A little boondockish self portrait I did, took me a while. I didn't really know what to make it until I finished the whole body.

A project I did for "above the influence" it's based on a character off a cartoon a watched a while ago (for the few who don't know):
