Nike Zoom KD III - 'Black History Month' - Detailed Images
words // Brandon Richard
Dr. J started it. Michael Jordan took it to a new dimension. Kobe Bryant is currently raising the bar. Perhaps the next NBA superstar to carry the proverbial torch is Oklahoma City Thunder Kevin Durant. At the ripe age of 22, Durant is a two-time NBA scoring champion and has his team contending for a championship in the Western Conference Finals. Also the recipient of his own Nike signature line, KD was part of this year's "Call To Greatness" Nike Black History Month footwear campaign. The black and gold sneakers saluted basketball's original pioneers, as well as those who have achieved true greatness on the hardwood and were worn in games scheduled on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Though Kevin's Zoom KD III was part of the Nike Black History Month Collection, it unfortunately wasn't one of the models that actually made it to retail. Outside of photos showing Durant wearing them on the court, most of us have never seen the shoe in detail. That changes today with a new set of photos provided by Alan Leung.
Like the other shoes in the Nike BHM Collection, the KD III features a predominantly black look with metallic gold accenting throughout. Tonal laser-cut graphic work by Nike Basketball Graphic Designer Erick Goto runs along the heel, ankle, forefoot and toebox. The quarter panels and tongue are given a matte finish, while metallic gold accents the look on the KD logo, Swoosh, midsole tab and forefoot panel.
