Other than the man behind the brand, Ray Allen is probably the most universally admired Team Jordan representative. A Jumpman athlete since Jordan branched off and became its own entity in 1997, it's only fitting that Ray Allen accomplished the single most important individual goal of his career in a pair of Air Jordans.
On February 10th of this year, and in the ultimate twist of irony, the Celtics hosted the rival Los Angeles Lakers with Ray just two 3-pointers shy of the all-time record. Then, with 1:48 left to play in the first quarter, Allen was on the receiving end of a Rajon Rondo pass and drilled a wide-open three from the right wing to break the record. Afterwards, he embraced the man he surpassed for the new mark, Indiana Pacers legend Reggie Miller.
While breaking the record, Ray wore a white and green Player Exclusive colorway of the Air Jordan Retro 13. Lasered on to the sides of the shoes was the Egyptian phrase "MEKTOUB." which translates to "it was written." Ray's custom "Shootman" logo was also embroidered on the tongue.
The Internet and sneaker community were collectively buzzing when it was revealed in June that a limited number of these Player Edition Ray Allen Record-Breaking Air Jordan Retro 13s would be released to the general public. Sans the lasered script, the shoes are styled exactly like the pair Ray wore when he knocked down that famous three pointer. The Ray 13s officially released this past Saturday in the Boston are and are commanding top dollar on the open market.
One of the lucky individuals to get his hands on a pair is Sole Collector member vjw8823. Not only did he scoop his pair, but he shared this crazy photo of them with us as well. Check out vjw8823's photo and share your thoughts with us below.
