This Saturday, Cam Newton and the Auburn Tigers will travel to Atlanta to take on Steve Spurrier's South Carolina Gamecocks in the SEC Championship Game. Newton, quarterback of the now #1 ranked Tigers, is the presumed frontrunner for the 2010 Heisman Trophy. Perhaps most pleased with the performance of Auburn and their star player is Under Armour, who is the official footwear and apparel sponsor of the school. The two sides have been locked into a partnership since 2005.
Over the last 4 weeks, Newton has been wear-testing a new cleat from Under Armour that utilizes their Nitro CompFit technology. Incorporated into their apparel heritage, Under Armour has developed a footwear specific CompFit Compression sleeve that runs around the ankle to provide superior comfort and protection for the foot. You can expect to see CompFit Technology hit retail next year, including a brand new UA basketball sneaker called the Juke set to drop in November 2011.
Seen here is a photo of the cleat that Cam will wear in Saturday's championship game. Images of additional colorways and Cam wearing the Nitro CompFit cleat can be seen below as well.
#1 Auburn takes on #19 South Carolina at the Georgia Dome this Saturday at 4 p.m. EST.
